The exposure in the z-Band in the MzLS+BASS survey is too low

Hi!

I really don’t browse over Dec=+32 in the Legacy Surveys DR8/9 images where the MzLS+BASS images are, and the galaxies look too blue or green here.

Is this a problem, Will it be fixed when LS DR10 comes out?

I use DR6 images at Dec +32, because the Z-band has more exposure and is nearly the same as SDSS.

It’s not an issue of depth or exposure time – MzLS is much deeper than SDSS z band – it’s an issue related to estimating the background around bright galaxies.

DR10 will not change this - DR10 only processes the DECam data (south).

DR6 has a subset of the images in DR8/9.

cheers,
dustin

Yes, I know DR10 is a DECaLS expansion and it may not happen with the northern survey, but is there a way to add extra Z-band (or edit the z-band data from MzLS) exposure and make the images a lot more equal?

No chance of adding more z exposure (the MzLS camera has been disassembled). Reprocessing the images is possible (but honestly not a huge priority).
