LegacySurvey.org Downtime (CORRECTION: Maintenance completed on Jan 30 2025.)

UPDATE: This maintenance has been completed. Please regard this as a past event.

Hi all.

The services hosted on LegacySurvey.org are unavailable while NERSC will be doing site-wide power maintenance and major upgrades their file system and their servers. We hope to have the services back by February 2, 2025.

Services that are unavailable during this maintenance

Any other internal or external services/websites that rely on these services mentioned above may result in errors or problems during the maintenance.

A backup viewer is available, but there are missing features and lots of bugs, which makes it unusable. Also it is a public version and it is hosted on AWS:

Hi,
You say the viewer.legacysurvey.org version has “lots of bugs” - can you please explain? Obviously it is a stripped-down version with many fewer layers and features, but so far as I know it functions correctly.
cheers,

I tried it but it is quite slow and images don’t load sometimes

It works normal though there are missing features

Agree, viewer.legacysurvey.org seems to be Up, though some images don’t load correctly.

It just seems 6 days of service downtime is “boring to most.”we’ll just have to wait.

I messaged Lynn (a scientist and a NERSC user that runs jobs on Perlmutter, I interviewed her last year) and she told me this:

Perlmutter and CFS are unavailable for six days (Monday Jan 27 - Saturday Feb 1) while NERSC is doing site-wide power maintenance. This power maintenance is required to prepare for new technology, in which they are installing new equipment and getting rid of old equipment. They shut down Perlmutter and CFS because equipment lies underneath these systems. However NERSC has stated the high likelihood of this maintenance being extended because of unexpected delays. Anyways thank you for the questions, Chris.

Can you please stop making vague reports that things don’t work, if you want actual action to fix them.

The viewer is back!
