What are these random size Black blocks/patches in the single-color linear area?

Welcome! When they have regular shapes and clear defined borders (like the black rectangle here), they are just areas where no data has been captured for some reason. It just means there is no data for that area to display. Hope that helps!

Welcome :slight_smile: Exactly – the camera we’re using here, the Dark Energy Camera, has 62 chips arranged in a hexagonal pattern –

and there are gaps between the chips. If we go back and take another image with the camera shifted a bit, we can cover most of the gaps. If we take a third image, we can cover almost all the gaps, but sometimes we’re left with these small holes.
