A Galaxy surrounded by a massive ring of stars

Indeed! Rings of stars around galaxies are usually stellar streams

The trails in these pics are usually pieces of ejecta from mergers: cores, core fragments, arm fragments and so on. Would you characterize them as streams as well? BTW: these objects are ~6 to 7Blyrs away and the particles are star clumps rather than stars

And finally, this one started as a whole galaxy but became an ejected core

In general I would guess so (although I would want an expert to weigh in on that one). Stellar streams are just associations of stars that orbit galaxies and I believe they tend to come from dwarf galaxies/GCs that have been torn apart by tidal forces. By that logic it would make sense that if something fits the description of object torn apart tidally that is now a bunch of orbiting stars then it could be.

I do feel some of those pics have trails that are caused by interactions as well.

Yes, stellar streams tend to come from minor mergers (i.e. a merger with a much smaller galaxy or dwarf galaxy).

Ok, so what is the proper name for these loopy (in every sense of the word  ) trails left by roamng objects that fall into a gravity well?

I think Tom is right “stellar streams”

Yes, stellar streams if the trails are stars and have followed the evolutionary path described by Tom (smaller galaxies, GCs, dwarf galaxies etc. mergers/interactions)
