Polar ring galaxies thread

The first and third ones are already catalogued in the P-R galaxy thread

I’ll have to recheck :face_with_raised_eyebrow: they’re not listed on the NPA

only found one of the three on the p–r thread

The first one I think I found a while back, and called it as “an almost twin of NGC 3718”

Second one, cannot find on both PR threads and the NPA

Third one is a find by Tri Shot Flurry.

cheers ~ strange why their not listed on the NPA atlas though :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Oh yeah, @ChrisSnell88 wouldn’t update the NPA because of research projects outside of MS right now, He should be back and ready to publish a May catalog next week I think.

Anyways, I could add some polar-ring candidates to the NPA but not at my huge priority

& with cordinates :smirk:

I believe next week I’ll update the NPA

That first one is not a polar-ring but actually a voorwerp. You can see these blue features are not the rings of the polar-ring galaxy. Voorwerps are a different name for an extended emission-line region. It’s a Dutch translation of “object”

I knew the translation, was sure the first galaxy was a p-r though ~ cheers👍

A quick change to this thread: Please make sure these candidates are on the NPA atlas, based on others’ findings. If you found a polar-ring galaxy, consider checking the New Polar-ring Atlas (NPA) before you post your candidate.

Cheers,
