The “single exposures” view is interesting here!

The first three images are the “g” band, which is blue in the color images.

You can see that the first image has a compact cosmic ray hit, the second image just barely misses this bit of sky, and the third image has two crossed cosmic ray tracks! As a result, the “outlier rejection” step that normally removes cosmic ray hits misses the core.
