Major Merger?

Is there anything neat about these (merging?) galaxies?

For instance, to me this looks like one galaxy with an active galactic nucleus that has already consumed thenucleus of the other… also interestingly, the AGN looks a little pentagonal. However, I wish there was spectroscopic data and I am curious as to like what targets get chosen for spectroscopy.

But also why do galaxies (very rarely) have the appearance of a polygonal nucleus, like the Saturn’s hexagonal storm?

DESI has a spectrum for that galaxy. It’s not public yet, though, unfortunately!

Well I’d be pretty interested in seeing that! :crossed_fingers:DR18 is cool with me of its cool with you :octopus:
