Looks like a supernova

It’s been awhile since I’ve been here, so I’ve forgotten how to access the other layers to check if this is transient.

If you click on the map, there’s a “Single Exposures” link that will show you cutouts of all the individual exposures we have – in this case, many spanning 4 years or more, and it’s present in all of them, so probably just a super blue star, not a SN!

my general rule of thumb f it is bright blue then i take it as a local star in our galaxy

Cyan things, yeah, are often hot stars. “Pure blue” things are often artifacts or transients.

The spot is visible in SDSS so it can’t be a #transient. Because the DECaLS survey and SDSS are about ten years apart.

Thanks for pointing this out. It’s been awhile since I looked at these. A simple check of images at different times would have shown it to be too enduring to be a supernova.
