Just something to do with the lens of the telescope.

This is one of the brightest stars in the nighttime sky, Canopus! The star looks weird because it is so bright that too much light will get absorbed into the telescopic exposure and cause funny things to happen sometimes, like weird patterns, internal telescopic reflections, and lots of saturation.
