Hi, new here, stumbled over from zooniverse after clicking around on surveys for a couple weeks.
Is this red area an artifact from the bright star above it?
What is up with the little dots that appear off the sides of it in other filters?

Hi,
That’s a cosmic ray (or maybe two cosmic rays). It’s unrelated to the stars in the image, because cosmic rays don’t come through the optics of the telescope. I’m not exactly sure what is going on with the weird black outline pattern, but basically cosmics are usually bright enough to mess things up severely.
