Interacting galaxies or just weird shape?

The thing on the top right of the galaxy, is it another tiny galaxy or a weird part of the bigger galaxy?

My guess would be a smaller galaxy that is interacting with the bigger spiral galaxy, they both look distorted

If you want to find out if they are at the same redshift you can try and look for redshift measurements in SDSS and SIMBAD for both galaxies

In the regular viewer I could only find a redshift z for the bigger galaxy from SDSS data

90% sure you’re right. Spiral arm of bigger galaxy isn’t broken enough to suggest that area was once part of it and that area seems to have a core
