I'm not sure what it is

If it were situated anywhere else I would just think it was a red shifted galaxy. But it is in front. Maybe a new forming solar system🤷

It could be overlapping. The reason why the galaxy appears redder is because stars, gas, and dust in front of the galaxy make it go redder and darker.

agree ~ it’s not a new forming solar system ~ that would be microscopic or possibly Planck Length on this scale :microscope:

What if instead it is a star shedding its outer layers like Eta Carinae about to go Supernova? I’m just throwing ideas out there. It looks strange enough to pursue. I know this is a target rich environment so who knows if we’ll ever know.

respective redshifts indicate the background object is far more distant than the spiral (z= 0.0019 & z= 0.0257)

The object is extragalactic and does not appear to be in relationship to the Milky Way galaxy. Definitely not a star.
