Interesting. Note that these are residual images you are showing here. My first reaction is to say that we are modeling an extended source (a galaxy) incorrectly and trying to compensate by putting down additional sources to soak up the flux. (In this hypothesis, these additional spurious sources are the 4 black circles around the main central black circle that was fit to minimize the residuals at the center of the galaxy). This seems to be supported by the residuals in riY (see here), which shows only 2 adjacent sources (again likely spurious), whereas I would expect to still see 4 if it were real. To fully confirm, we should query the DECaPS2 catalog and see if there are actual sources being modeled at those adjacent locations.
