9 Large Galaxies in One Frame


The frame center is a little to the left. But this point had a better thumbnail. Are any of these named?

Nice!! If you click on the “Siena Galaxy Atlas” layer, you’ll get labels for these ones – PGC 18182 and friends. You can see that the three in this thumbnail are all at about the same redshift – so they really are near to each other, not just a coincidental projection.

I believe this is galaxy cluster Abel 520. Per Wiki- " This is actually a collision between two galaxy clusters. The galaxies and the dark matter seems to have separated out into separate dark and light cores."
