Why are asteroids predominantly green in these images? (or is it just that those are the only ones that stand out?)

Good question – I’d guess it’s some combination of the color of the asteroid (= sunlight * reflectivity), the exposure time (here, for DECaLS observations in standard conditions, g=70 s, r=50 s, z=100s), and, as you say, how much they stick out. Green ones for sure stick out very prominently!

Yes - I have now found them in red, green and blue… there’s a lot of them about! the green ones stand out more.
